LOCAL NEWS:
If you are thinking about a trip to the North Shore this winter, and would like to polish up your technique or talents, you may want to visit the SunsetSuratt Surf School. "Uncle Brian" Suratt has been teaching and coaching for over 40 years and has helped hundreds of wave riders take their surfing to the next level. For more info, or to book a session in Hawaii, contact: http://www.sunsetsurattsurfschool.com/

The North Shore circus is officially in full swing, drawing the world’s top surfing tightrope walkers, beast-tamers, freaks and clowns. For proof, just check Surfline’s latest weekly report , where NJ’s Ryan Miller followed East Coasters around during a down day. Zander Morton and Gabe Kling watched TV, while Brian Toth, CJ Hobgood and Ben Bourgeois played tennis. Come on, guys: get back in the water! Don’t you realize it’s winter back home?!
On Nov. 18, look for Kelly Slater to do a victory lap through NYC as he signs his latest book – “For The Love” – at the 5th Ave Quiksilver Store from 7 to 9 p.m.
Then on December 20th, please come support Montauk surfer Tucker Geery with a free surf movie premiere and pizza night at the Main Beach Surf and Sport in Wainscott Village. They’ll also be raffling a Tony Caramanico 9-foot noserider that retails at $1100. (Tix are $2 each -- or 3 for $5 –and all proceeds benefit Tucker.) Movie starts at 6:00pm; at approximately 7:00pm they’ll be drawing the winner of the raffle. (Winner need not be present.) Specials and discounts will be offered in the store from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
The bad news is last weekend’s , ESA CNJ Turkey Trot was pushed to Nov. 21or 22. The good news it’s still in Seaside Heights and you’ve got more time to register online.
On Nov. 23, The Jersey Shore Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is holding an informal jetty cleanup at Manasquan Inlet on Sunday at 10 AM. They will track the types of garbage found in order to educate surfers, recreational fishermen and the general public. Low tide is at 10:30 am so plan on surfing afterwards -- waves permitting. Get involved, make a difference and help clean up your local beach.

Whether it is for the love, for the money or for the fun, Kelly Slater has done it all? ridden the best waves, won a record number of world championships, and changed surfing forever. Kelly Slater: For the Love is his story in his own words. Now available. Swing over to 5th Ave (587 Fifth Ave) THIS Tuesday, November 18th, 7pm-9pm, to greet the legend and have him sign your book.

According to LocalSwell.com New Jersey took down New York in the Battle for the Bones. Congrats to all the Dirty Jerz champs: Sarah Dodds, TJ Mortellaro, Pete Machotka, Pat Emery and Chris Roone.

The word on NewYorkSurf.com is Rick Malwitz of Malwitz Custom Surfboards is doing a fundraiser for Surfrider. It’s goal is to raise $2000.00 by selling $5.00 raffles for a chance to win a custom EPS/Epoxy board, up to 7ft and tailor made to your specifications. Get on it quick, because he’s raised over a grand already.
Looking way out, organizers just announced this year’s Surf for Dean/Freeze for a Cause will be on Dec. 27 ( no surf date of Jan. 3) at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ. Last year, this event raised upwards of $25,000 for Dean while he battled cancer for the fourth time, so they decided to make it a annual event to benefit The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation to help other people in need. And, once again, there will be an after party/raffle/auction at The Crabs Claw in Lavallette, NJ starting at 7:00 pm.
The national election’s done, but another political fight is only beginning. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.
And, finally, what’s the best part of a surf trip? That giant excess baggage fee the airlines pork you with on both sides, right? Wrong! Well, stop bitching and do something by...
