Okay, back to the fun stuff. After three months, the hottest video clips of the summer season have been narrowed down to the finalists in Billabong’s Freewave Challenge where$40,000 is up for grabs. Among the challengers are: Aaron Cormican and Cody Thompson for ‘Monster Maneuver”; Jesse Hines and Zander Morton for “Best Barrel”; and Kelly Nicely for “Longest Ride.” Final rankings will be announced starting October 15, 2008.
There’s a whole heap of comps coming this weekend. In SC it’s the John Kalagian Team Challenge and Joe Hiller Longboard Classic on Oct. 11 and 12, respectively. In VB, it’s ESA VA contest #4 at First Street. The Hot Wax Challenge is also this weekend at Fort Fisher, NC. And thenewly formed NSSA Mid-Atlantic Conference will hit Hatteras, Oct. 11-12.
The 9th Annual Lip-Rippin' Chilympics Chili Cook-Off will be held Sunday, Oct.12, at Spuds Waterfront Dining/Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet, SC from noon until 7 p.m. Besides the best "no rules" chilis from the area's best chefs, listen to music from Ten Toes Up, Painted Man, The Regime, Red Emotion Riot and Sawgrass, and delicious beers from local favorite New South Brewing Company.
