More Information | Rate Accuracy of This Model
Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

How soon we forget. Seems like all it takes is a few days of flatness for those wonderful tropical memories to disappear. Well, check out Surfline’s September to Remember for sizzling a reflection on the action from all points East.
Then there’s the stuff folks don’t want you to see the first time, like the environmental mess Ike made, including a half-million gallons of spilled oil. And that’s just a drop compared to what will happen if we line our shores with rigs and refineries, giving nearly every named and unnamed storm a chance to pollute. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.
Okay, back to the fun stuff. After three months, the hottest video clips of the summer season have been narrowed down to the finalists in Billabong’s Freewave Challenge where $40,000 is up for grabs. Among the challengers are: Aaron Cormican and Cody Thompson for ‘Monster Maneuver”; Jesse Hines and Zander Morton for “Best Barrel”; and Kelly Nicely for “Longest Ride.” Final rankings will be announced starting October 15, 2008.
There’s a whole heap of comps coming this weekend. In SC it’s the John Kalagian Team Challenge and Joe Hiller Longboard Classic on Oct. 11 and 12, respectively. In VB, it’s ESA VA contest #4 at First Street. The Hot Wax Challenge is also this weekend at Fort Fisher, NC. And the newly formed NSSA Mid-Atlantic Conference will hit Hatteras, Oct. 11-12.
The 9th Annual Lip-Rippin' Chilympics Chili Cook-Off will be held Sunday, Oct.12, at Spuds Waterfront Dining/Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet, SC from noon until 7 p.m. Besides the best "no rules" chilis from the area's best chefs, listen to music from Ten Toes Up, Painted Man, The Regime, Red Emotion Riot and Sawgrass, and delicious beers from local favorite New South Brewing Company. For information or to enter, contact Bruxanne at 843/333.2034.
And Oct. 10-11, from 10am –4pm, daily, check out the REAL Fall Swap Meet in Rodanthe, NC: Kite, Surf, Standup. Buy, Sell, Trade. New and used gear. Plus, meet Pat Rawson and Tony Finn. Click here for full details.
But first, on Oct. 7, it’s another Sullivan Island Beach Sweep in SC -- this time at Station 22.5
And DC Surfrider will meet on Oct. 8 at 7pm in the meeting space of the DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in Washington, DC, near Dupont Circle.
“After years of negotiations, a team of officials from four agencies, making up the Merger 01 Review Board, including DENR’s Chief Deputy Secretary Bill Laxton, has agreed to the short-bridge/phased approach option to replace the Bonner Bridge.“ But it ain’t over yet. There’s a whole month of public comment, so yell and scream hoo-ray to your NC legislators before Audobon and others can do the opposite. Read the report then send comments to NCDOT engineer Beth Smyre or call her at 919-733-7844, ext. 333.
Then be sure to be at the Pit in Nags Head on Wed. Oct, 15 for the next Outer Banks Surfrider meeting to discuss what else you can do.
On Oct. 19, Virginia Beach will be honoring Josh Thompson with a huge walk and beach party at the Ocean Front. Josh was tube riding Cloudbreak on Tavarua, and crav...
