SURF REPORT
Hey, this is David with the report for Monday afternoon at 12:05pm.
SURF:
1-2 ft - ankle to knee high and poor+ conditions.

PM REGIONAL OVERVIEW: Surf is super small this afternoon with gusty offshore winds continuing right now but the best breaks are only seeing knee high waves break close to shore. Maybe a longboardable set now and then but even those are far and few between. Tide is dropping to a .1' low at 3pm.

This Morning's Dawn Patrol: Clean, inconsistent little waves breaking close to shore.

WEATHER:
Sunny skies with strong/gusty N/NE winds, expected to shift NW through the afternoon.
NORTH ORANGE COUNTY'S REGIONAL OVERVIEW:
The Santa Anas sure are crankin' this morning for clean/offshore surface conditions, but almost blowing too hard for the tiny waves. Perhaps even blowing the surf flat. Today we just have traces showing of SW, NW, and SE swells for mainly 1-2' waves at the good spots. We have a 5.8' High tide at 8:35am that will drop to a 0.2' Low by 3pm.
FORECAST SUMMARY:
TUESDAY: Minimal SSW swell, stiff offshore winds and a big high tide for weak waves mainly under knee high in the morning. Bit more SSW swell in the afternoon.
Wind: Steady offshore NE in the morning then WNW 10-15kts for the afternoon.

LOCAL NEWS:
Throughout the month, a new exhibit is being featured in John Wayne Airport’s (JWA) Vi Smith Concourse Gallery. Entitled “ California ’s Orange Coast : 42 Miles of Tradition and Lore,” and sponsored by the Surfing Heritage Foundation, the exhibit will feature a visual history of the role surfing has played in Orange County spanning nearly 100 years. On display through October 27th, the exhibit is open only to the traveling public and can be seen across from gates 1 through 4 and 11 through 14 in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal.

There is no other wave in the world that has dominated the hearts and minds of surfers like Pipeline. Through two-hundred pages of captivating and timeless images from over fifty of the world’s best photographers, combined with words from surfing’s most renowned writers, Pipeline: The World’s Most Respected Wave tells the stories from almost five decades of heart-stopping action: the first rides, the first contests, triumphs, deaths, localism, foreign invasion and performance revolution. On November 8th, Billabong will be hosting the Pipeline Book Launch Party at their headquarters in Irvine. For tickets and books sales click here.

The original dons of the American surf industry, who came to power in the late ’50s and early ’60s, arose from the not-so-mean streets of south Orange County. They became known as the Dana Point Mafia. Read all about industry history and Surfwear’s Mount Rushmore at Orangecoastmagazine.com.

Looking ahead: On Saturday, November 1st, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, will be hosting the first annual Surfscience Teen Conference. The Conference starts at 10:00am and goes until 4:00pm and is open to 8th-12th grade students. Teens will have the chance to meet Quiksilver pro surfer Lisa Andersen, participate in a mini-workshop on surf forecasting with Surfline scientist Kevin Wallis, and take a bus trip down to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla. For more information check out the Ocean Institute¹s website or call (949) 496-2274. Registration will be limited to the first 60 participants.

What's your surf spot worth? Help us find out. Researchers at UCLA are
conducting a survey of surfers who surf at California surf spots to evaluate
their worth. You can help by visiting this link and filling out the survey:
http://www.beachology.com/surf. Those who fill out the survey for Trestles between August 1 and September 30 are entered in a drawing to win a beautiful Pipeline Masters photography book signed by Stacey Peralta. Your participation can help us better protect and manage California surf spots in the future.
