Surfing America's new WSA Prime series continued in full effect at Church over the weekend, with the level of surfing going up a notch as the contestants get used to the new format. While the waves weren't necessarily as good as the first event at DMJ's, the contestants seemed more comfortable and aggressive.

The sun was out, and everybody was stoked. The waves got steadily larger as the day went on, and by the finals there were solid head high sets coming through, reeling down the point despite the brutal onshore winds. This kept the waves surfable and competitive throughout the whole day.

Some familiar faces made their way into the finals, as well as some newcomers to this specific series. One of which was Kolohe Andino, grabbing second in the Boys Under 16 division. This division had a very intense final heat, with all of the competitors surfing very impressively considering the conditions. The point margin between all four surfers was less than one whole point. Ultimately Taylor Thorne went on to win his division with a 13.73.

Courtney Conlogue took first in the Girls Under 18 division again, racking up some serious points for this series. This was another intense final, coming down to a wave-for-wave bout between Lackey Peterson and Conlogue. In the end Conlogue held her lead and won the heat. Although emotions were high during the final, the two exchanged hugs and smiles on the beach.
Other highlights included Kolohe Andino getting the highest wave score of the day, grabbing a 9.33. Young Kanoa Igarashi also lit things up as usual in the Boys Under 14 division, getting above the lip a few times to eventually grab first place. The level of competition is high, and the new series seems to be gaining traction.

The next WSA Prime event is at Oceanside Harbor, South Jetty on December 6th.
