To quote legendary design guru David Carson, the art of Wolfgang Bloch is "mesmerizing."
So it's not hard to imagine why a piece of Wolfy's art commanded $35,000 G's at last year's SIMA Waterman's Ball--the outcome of a live auction bidding war between Billabong USA head-honcho Paul Naude and the greatest competitive surfer of all time, Kelly Slater (Naude prevailed). This price was notable for the surfing community, and now the rest of the art world has really taken notice of Wolfgang's work as well.

Photos of him when he was young reflect his discovery of surfing at an impressionable young age. The coastal scenery from the days of his youth have forever served as his inspiration to create works of art that have become so heralded, so valued...but Wolfgang remains mellow, unaffected. After migrating to the States in the early 80s, and after earning degrees at the University of Florida, and the Pasadena Art Center, Wolfgang spent the next decade as a successful designer for top industry brands like Gotcha, Quik, Billabong, Vans, and Hobie, as well as non-endemics like Jeep, Tower Records, and Indian Motorcycles. He's since devoted himself to his original love of painting, and his work has been published and displayed in major publications and in galleries all over this bright blue spinning marble. Wolfgang has earned his stripes as one of the surf world's most respected artists. His mixed-mediums--including canvas, wood, surfboard core's, and more, have become a unique, otherworldly, and unprecedented brand of art. Says Steven "Slidawg" Chew, funky Laguna artist, surfer, and TRKY apparel brand founder/art director, "Wolfgang is such a down home, rootsy, rustic, artist...he's really carved out a nice niche for himself in the surf art and fine art world's." On Saturday October 8, The Laguna Art Museum was the site of Wolfgang's Bloch's Art Exhibition opening and Book Signing party. A great time was had by all who came and enjoyed Wolf's many renowned works of art that were on display, the free-flowing cocktails, cool live tunes, brotherhood vibes, and Wolfgang's new book, The Colors of Coincidence. Kudos to Billabong, and Monster Energy, for hosting such a cool, artsy gig.
