Our great and emotional weekend started at Duke's Malibu Friday Night where Josh Morgan fed roughly 175 guests. We had tunes from DJ Jacques and Terraplane and throughout the party our guests were bidding on our great silent auction items from Jeff Ransenberg, DVS, VonZipper, RVCA, Steven Lippman Print and Film, Nixon, Billabong, Spy, Lost, Hurley, Mike D from the Beastie Boys, Ian Zamora Surfboards, Your Los Angeles Lakers, and many many others. All proceeds from the Silent Auction went to Lyon. Two of our fine Malibu Citizens actually bought items from the Auction for Lyon as a double gift; Andy Lyon bought Lyon a Body Glove Full Suit and Debby Frank bought Lyon a Signed Andy Irons board Courtesy of Billabong. Last but not least we premiered The Allen Sarlo Documentary "Work To Surf" by Dave Ogle which got many hoots and whistles. On Saturday morning, we were blessed with the tail-end of a south groundswell as well as the middle-end of Hurricane Ignacio. Our Malibu Legends Division started the day off strong and were followed by the Pro's and then the Jr./Groms. Halfway through the day, TheraSURF put on an unbelievable show. TheraSURF was born with a consortium of great friends caring for kids with special needs like Autism. Jimmy Gamboa is the heart of TheraSURF and has the help of many friends such as Ryan Conder, Skylar Peak, Leo Harrington, Josh Froley, Scott Caan, Kalani Robb, Jordy Tappis, John Baker, Dale Rhodes, and Pascal Stansfield. The waves were pumping and the boys gave the kids the rides of their lives. After their freesurf midday, Jimmy had trophies made for all the kids and his presentation to them left us all in tears. We still saw some of the lingering effects from Ignacio on Sunday morning with the every-10-minute pulse of three- to four-wave sets that were shoulder-high and rippable. Although the surf was smaller, it was still fun and the conditions were flawless.
