A quad set-up on a 9'0"? Believe it. In fact, many of the big-wave guys are going that route for hold and maneuverability.
"This wave had a giant jet ski wake in it, so I was wondering if I should even go," Healey remembered of this Puerto Escondido bomb. "I thought it'd probably turn out pretty bad. And then Greg [Long] yelled, 'Go Healey!' So I just whipped it and tried to hang on. I ran over a wake at the top, tried to recover, hit one at the bottom and then hit the wake again coming up to try to pull in the pocket. So I was kind of a yard sale -- all over the place, on my heels, rolling up the windows. But the board found the line that it needed. I just had to stay with the board. That's the beauty of quads."
