CONDITIONS:
Cardiff's Seaside Reef didn't disappoint as heats ran in four- to five-foot, clean surf. HIGHLIGHTS: In the Girls division, Lauren Sweeny, fresh off the mountain and back at sea level, made a rather seamless return to the water, taking top podium honors. Not a bad weekend showing for Sweeny, who spent the winter season in Mammoth. In the Groms division, Ian Crane continued a stellar year, besting other finals standouts Colin Moran and Kent Nishiya, on his way to the win. |

waves. Sean Marceron edged out contenders Zach Keenan and Marty Weinstein on his way to the winner's circle in a Pro-Am division that drew near record numbers for a VQS event as far as its field of competitors. OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS: Though Zach Keenan and Marty Weinstein each deserve an honorable mention -- Zach surfed well enough to win and Marty won the Electric Volt Thrower Move of the Day -- taking the day's top honors is Sean Merceron who got it done when it mattered in the final. In other divisions, give credit to Luke Rife for having the confidence to wait it out in the final and then for capitalizing on the waves he got once they came in; Lauren Sweeny for not only not showing any rust, but coming away with the win; and Ian Crane for adding to an already monster year.
