Judging from the population of canvases dressing the walls of his Solana Beach gallery, you'd swear Wade Koniakowsky dreams of waves.
They are clearly the centerpiece of his creative world - his healthy obsession.
A former marketing man and art director who draws on his background in graphic design, Koniakowsky has a space in the boutique-heavy Cedros Design District. On a wet December afternoon we paid him a visit at his Ocean Art gallery, currently doubling as his temporary studio - he's moving right now, into a smaller house with a bigger home studio in Carlsbad off Tamarack. He was literally just off the jet from a trip to Hawaii where he did a show at the Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa. In a surf art world littered with people who flat out just don't have it, Koniakowsky does. He seems to have this art thing pretty dialed, so we had him take us through some of his favorite pieces from his collection.
