By now, everyone's realized Northern Spain is more than Mundaka and Bakio. After a couple XXL winter sessions over the last few years, it's clear that the northern tip of the Iberian Peninsula is holding. And due to an earlier-than-normal North Atlantic storm last week, Spanish big wave surfers had a taste of wintertime juice in the middle of summer.
"Playa Gris is usually surfed with the help of a tow-in team," explained local surfer Ibon Maza. "And it rarely breaks in summer."

This particular session went down late afternoon, while there were some local chargers surfing Roca Puta on the inside, Spanish big-wave surfer (and Eddie invitee) Ibon Amatriain took his SUP board out to Playa Gris.*
"It is curious to surf it without a wetsuit," quipped Maza. "But we're not complaining! And we hope the North Atlantic keeps providing good waves."
