CONDITIONS: What a day for a contest... The surf at Rodanthe was kegging! The Outer Banks Pro Battle of the Banks was blessed with overhead northeast swell from a powerful low pressure system in the NW Atlantic and straight offshore winds all day long. Pretty much heaving tube rides were the only option for competitors as contest director Wes Laine encouraged deep pits not punts... but no one was complaining.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS:
This unique format pitted two teams of six Virginia surfers against two teams of six Outer Bankers (with all scores tallied to determine a winner). Each six-man team had 30-minutes for each guy to catch two waves. The top three scorers from each side (VA and NC) met in a six-man final. So props to NC's Noah Snyder, Jesse Hines and Pat McManus and VB's Andrew Meyer, Jason Borte and Lucas Rogers for earning that final berth.

You can bet the boys were probably just stoked to surf pumping Pea Island with five other guys out. Thanks to an early lead, courtesy of a massive 317.5 heat two score for the VA crew comprised of Rogers, Lundy, Borte, Parnell, Petticrew and Schirmer, the Commonwealth wrapped up the victory with a final score of 1147 to 1089. However, just as Laine predicted, a team title did not necessary mean individual accolades...

HIGHLIGHTS:
Jesse Hines scooped the barrel of the event. As if the dredging, double-shacker of a lefthander wasn't enough of a reward, Hines netted $500 for his efforts. Meanwhile, Pat McManus nudged an on-fire Andrew Meyer for the individual event crown.

RESULTS:
Winning Team: Virginia (Lucas Rogers, Raven Lundy, Brendan Petticrew, Brad Harrell, Chris Todd, Randy Renard, Drew Moye, Jason Borte, Granger Clark, Andrew Meyer, Ian Parnell, Mike Schirmer)

Hurley "Glory Hole" for Best Barrel: Jesse Hines

Individual Final:

1. Pat McManus
2. Andrew Meyer
3. Jesse Hines
4. Lucas Rogers
5. Noah Snyder
6. Jason Borte
