The Shana Foundation presents "Shana's Rainbow" (www.TheShanaFoundation.org home page click CARTOON) a colorful and lighthearted, but informative cartoon set in the surfing community of Monmouth Beach on the Jersey Shore. In addition to great surfing scenes, the cartoon offers an awesome soundtrack and an endearing story that explains the warning signs and symptoms of Bacterial Meningitis.
Shana was an inspirational wahine who loved the ocean and surfers. She tragically lost her life to Bacterial Meningitis and this cartoon and The Shana Foundation's mission are dedicated to her memory.
The Shana Foundation is a non-profit charity whose goal is to protect young adults against Bacterial Meningitis. Founder and director Madeline Wasserman is honoring her daughter Shana's memory through the Foundation's campaign for education amongst medical personnel, parents and students to recognize the symptoms and learn about medical protocols for emergency treatment. The Foundation also supports medical research to produce a conjugate vaccine against Bacterial Meningitis strains and strategically places treatment protocol plaques in hospital emergency rooms.
The Shana Foundation sponsors events throughout the year, including the upcoming Shana's Pro-Am Surf Jam on September 21, 2008 in Monmouth Beach. Prizes at the Surf Jam include an Oris Swiss underwater watch, a brand-new Mike Gleason pro model Chemistry Surfboard, and a Surfline.com prize package.
