The Occy Grom Comp presented by Billabong went off as The Hook in Santa Cruz welcomed a small, yet clean, 2-3 foot northwest swell accompanied by warm glassy conditions. With bragging rights and jungle gym priority on the line, dozens of frothing groms battled it out at The Hook.
 
Huge lines of gremmies also formed outside the Billabong bus to get a signature from everyone's favorite surf hero Mark Occhilupo. Occy spent the afternoon taking photos, commentating heats and applying first aid to the occasional stubbed toe.

At the final horn Willie Engleton took the Boys 10-13 final. Satchel Dauphane came in a close second and Liam Hession and Sam Anderson followed in the third and fourth, respectively.


In the Juniors 14-16 final, Shaun Burns took top honors while John Wilson came in second, followed by Bjorn Temple in third and Anthony Dunn in fourth.

Overall it was an amazing event. With fun waves, stoked groms and Occy, who could ask for a better Sunday? Special thanks to all the volunteers, Billabong Santa Cruz: Adam Repogle, Alistair Craft, the city of Santa Cruz and, of course, Mr. Mark Occhilupo.
