SportsKnack Announces Innovative Board Rental Program
June 11, 2008
PRESS RELEASE
Board demos and rentals aren't only for a few hours anymore.
Just ask Marek Zawisza, a graphic designer from Santa Monica, who takes out top-notch surfboards from SPORTSKNACK to his sessions whenever he wants. At least twice a month, Marek drives to Marina Del Rey and picks up a different surfboard that he rides anywhere he wishes. A Firewire Alternator. A Surf Prescriptions New Toy, sometimes even a paddle board on crazy flat days.
Marek makes the arrangements with a few clicks on his computer. And in minutes his boards are ready for pick up at SportsKnack's Marina Del Rey warehouse.
"For a guy like me who's always looking around to what everyone is riding, it's ideal," says Marek, who's been surfing for 20 years and surfs several times a week. "In a way, it's a very American thing. I want choice. And I want it now."
Learning about your choices in surfboard design wasn't always so easy. Surfboard demos only run for a few hours on specific dates, and more likely the selection isn't even close to what the crew at SPORTSKNACK has to offer. They will be adding hundreds of boards every year for their members to surf; it's what they are calling "The Endless Quiver".
For years, Marek traveled to County Line when there were "demo days," a 45-minute car-ride from his home. A longtime staple of surfboard marketing, demo days were put out by shapers and larger manufacturing firms as a way to spread the word about their newest lines.
The idea is simple: Set up a bunch of surfboards at the beach, and let consumers come to them.
It sounds cool. But even for tireless surfers like Marek, demo days have several drawbacks. Their schedules and locations can be inconvenient; waves may not be good at the specific surf spot on the demo day and you may only try boards from a specific manufacturer. Plus, the event format is restricted -- how can you tell if you really like a surfboard after just a few waves on it?
"I love demoing new stuff, and would go as much as possible to demo days," Marek says, "but there is nothing like looking at a full quiver online and choosing what I want and when I want it... I can ride the board I pickup, wherever I want, and really know what it feels like owning the specific surfboard I take."
SportsKnack has been described as the "NETFLIX" for surfers, and in lots of ways, the services are alike. Browse the Endless Quiver at www.sknack.com or call them at (866) 529-0090 to get more info on their membership plans.
