CONDITIONS: Glassy, shoulder-high mushy peaks. Chlorinated.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE: First and second place finishers Burton Hathaway and Fred Nevarez consistently pushed their turns closest to the pool's wall, spraying spectators and lifeguards alike.

HIGHLIGHTS: Well, the wavepool itself - called "Poseidon's Rage", inside Wisconsin Dells theme park, Mt Olympus -- is a kind of highlight. It's a bit mushy, sure, but it is an a-frame that allows a couple turns before closing out into a cement wall. Just don't try a floater.

QUOTE: "It's not the largest wave pool of its kind, however the waves it produces are. They advertise the waves to be nine feet, but in reality they are just slightly overhead. So far we have had a good response from our hosts at the park so there is no doubt that it will be open again for surfing."--Photog Rusty Malkemes
