Azucar Surf Retreat Utilizes Green Principles in Boca Del Toro
August 8, 2008
PRESS RELEASE

Azucar Surf Retreat is pleased to announce a partnership with Waterways Surf Adventures based on their first class waves and heavy green orientated design. WaterWays Surf Adventures brings the very best of global surf travel with fully inclusive group packages, independent surf camp packages, yacht charters, guided camping tours, and self-drive surf holidays. Waterways Surf Adventures has decided to feature Azucar Surf Retreat as a key destination where their professional staff can provide the best airfares and bring unique surf destinations to their clientele around the world.

For surfers interested in experiencing world-class surf, while limiting their footprint on the environment Azucar offers an alternative to big industry accommodation. Set on the small island of Bocas Del Toro on Panama's Caribbean side, Azucar Surf Retreat was built as a green and sustainable project strategically set over the water with vented walls and floors optimizing wind and sun to minimize electricity usage.

Sensitive to the issue of urbanization, the accommodations consist of a renovated fan cooled boathouse with three bungalows. Staying at Azucar means the entire property is at the clients disposal. Once a group is reserved at the overwater lodge, they have camp exclusivity, meaning no other group will be added in at that time. Additionally, all of the buildings are designed around minimal usage of materials in a non ornate modern style with the construction utilizing local fast growth lumbers and materials, plantation grown teak, low voc finishes and recycled materials.

Some other green elements include a grey water recycling system on the shower water system, which naturally filters the used water into the landscape relieving the impact off the existing infrastructure. Azucar continues to make improvements on the site with a planned conversion of their retreat vehicles to operate on biodiesel fuel. For a limited time Azucar is also offering a killer promotion which includes a free guest stay with booking of three people. The offer is good through November 2008 so book now.
