Kauai Contest Launches NSSA Hawaii 2008-2009 RVCA Series
July 31, 2008
PRESS RELEASE

The NSSA Hawaii RVCA Series opened up on Kauai over the past weekend with a new format and with a major cost cutting 3 events. This year Oahu, Maui and Kauai will host their own series however, each competitor must surf at least one neighbor island event, saving parents and competitors thousands of dollars.

The Kauai event opened up the season with two to four foot surf at Prince Kuhio Beach on the south shore of Kaua'i .

"It felt great to get back into the swing of competition after an awesome Nationals this year and lots of titles going to the Hawaiian surfers," explained Bobbi Lee, Hawaii region director, as the surf in Poipu got better throughout the day.

With a new format and only Kauai surfers competing, it made for a relaxed family day on the Beach House Restaurant lawn. A lot of new faces showed up for this event, including James Thesken with a double win in the Open Boys & Explorer Menehunes.

Veteran competitor Kyle Galtes won Open Men & Explorer Junior Men to start his season on the right foot.

Celebrity Jada Pinkett-Smith even stopped by with her kids to watch and cheer on Mainei and Maluhia Kinimaka during the finals.

With sky rocketing fuel costs the new format looks like it a win-win all the way around the neighbor islands.
