BEHIND THE SCENES: THE DRIFTER Six months floating through Indo with Rob Machado's new film 13 years ago Rob Machado and Taylor Steele filmed Drifting. In between Tour stops, Steele, Machado and friends set out to roam their way around the globe -- scoring great waves and documenting the life of a traveling surfer, which equated to Poor Specimen's 1996 release. But times have changed. The ASP World Tour is a distant memory for Rob. Instead of chasing points, Machado settled into the groovy lifestyle of posting up and pulling in. And there's no better place to lose yourself for six months than the wave-rich, warm water haven of Indonesia. "Back then I was in a different phase of my life," Machado reflected on his Drifting days. "But now, The Drifter is a different approach. I'm still doing a similar thing. This movie brings you in and lets you experience what I've experienced during those six months in Indo." With simply a motorcycle and his trusty tent, Machado island hops from Bali throughout Indo being tailed by Steele and a state-of-the-art RED camera -- the digital equivalent to 35 mm film. From crazy double barrels on Lombok to digging drinking water wells on Sumba, Machado takes you deeper than you ever thought you could go in the Indonesian archipelago. This is his trip. Let The Drifter be your guide. |
