SURFLINE NOMINATED FOR SPORTS WEBSITE AWARD
SAN FRANCISCO, JUNE 17, 2002 -- Surfline.com, the worlds number one online destination for surfers, will be one of five websites in the running for Best Sports Website honors at this years Webby Awards, the so-called "Academy Awards of the Internet."
Surfline, along with e-commerce partner Swell.com, won the award last year, besting high-profile sports websites ESPN.com and CBS.sportsline.com.
This year, Surfline will be competing against four prominent online entities, including fifaworldcup.com, 49ers.com, backpacker.com and, once again, ESPN.com.
All five sites will be evaluated on six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience.
Now in their sixth year, the Webby Awards are the "leading international honor for achievement in technology and creativity." The event is organized and overseen by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, which states that the awards "strive to combine the rich diversity of talent of the online community in order to recognize the finest work by the most skilled people in this dynamic field."
The Webby Awards will be held Tuesday, June 18 at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
