(05/19/13) I went surfing at Morro Strand this evening saw dead sea lion with no head on beach, the sea lion was not rotting and had most of abdomen missing....

at least up NorCal way, deceased seals/sea lions that wash up on the beach may be "missing" their heads because Cal Academy of Sciences (Bones) or other researchers typically severe the head of the already-dead animal when it's found washed up on beach, for (whatever they call their autopsy/analysis of the head.) It's NOT necessarily decapitation by great white shark.
